Coming soonAn open-source, self-hosted Jira alternative

An open-source, self-hosted Jira alternative.

ShipLean has what a Jira team expects: a ranked backlog, Scrum and Kanban boards, sprints, capacity and forecasts. It is free, it runs on your own server, and your agents work the same backlog over MCP.

What you expect

Everything a Jira team reaches for first.

The parts of Jira that teams use every day, in a tool you host yourself.

A backlog you can rank

Keep one ranked list for the whole team and see which sprint each item is likely to land in, based on real velocity.

Scrum or Kanban, your way

Run sprints, run a flowing board with WIP limits, or mix the two on the same backlog.

Sprints and capacity

Plan a sprint against what the team can actually take on, then see how it went when it ends.

Forecasts and reports

Reports are built from the full history of every item, so they show what really happened.

Live for the whole team

See who else is on the same screen and watch their changes arrive.

Your own workflow

Name the states each project needs, and the reports still add up.

What is different

Not a copy of Jira.

Free, open source and yours

ShipLean will be free to download and host. Your data lives on your own server, and there is no per-seat bill.

Agents work the same backlog

An MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor and other agents read and update the same backlog, boards and sprints as the team. See how agents connect.

Jira import

Bring your Jira project with you.

Move a Jira project into ShipLean with its history, comments and sprints. You see how everything will come across before anything is imported, and your Jira stays exactly as it was.

What ShipLean does not do yet

  • It is not released. Version 1 is being built in the open, and the open-source release comes after it.
  • Bring-your-own sign-in through an identity proxy is planned, not built.
  • Roadmaps and delivery plans across several teams are for later.

Plan the sprint.
Then go ship it.

ShipLean is coming soon. Follow the project on GitHub to hear when it is ready to install.
